The Important Functions and Features of the Modern Motorcycle Helmet

The motorcycle helmet of today, the ones you can find at any reliable retailer, are the product of decades of motorcycle racing. The racing circuit has demanded a high standard from helmet manufacturers and, with advances in technology, they have created the most safe and stylish motorcycle helmets ever made. You can be confident that, when buying a brand new helmet, you are getting the benefit of years of racing experience. There are a few crucial components of a helmet, that designers and consumers alike, consider in the modern bike helmet.

Motorcycle helmets are made up of components that give the rider both comfort and protection, all wrapped up in the latest designs. The shield and the shell make up the outer parts of the helmet. Tested by the latest methods, they are durable, impact resistant and aerodynamic for stability at high speeds. The shield, or visor, keeps wind, dirt, insects and UV radiation out of the rider’s eyes. It must be aerodynamic, while maintaining optically clear and undistorted vision. The shell needs to absorb and disperse the energy in the event of a fall. It is usually made out of fiberglass, which are high impact resistant and durable, or a poly-carbonate mixture, which is light weight and sturdy.

The inner lining of motorcycle helmets is one of the most important components, in regard to safety and comfort. The safety liner is made of ESP, which is similar to what foam cups are made out of. The purpose of this layer is to absorb the energy of a single impact. It will deform without passing on the pressure to the head. It is very important to have this layer; some helmets are made without it to look cooler, but this could become a crucial mistake in the event of a fall. The comfort liner is also very important. It is the padding that sits between the head and the helmet. A badly fitting helmet can cause red marks on the rider’s face, causing discomfort. This layer is interchangeable with different-sized pads to ensure a perfect hold on the rider’s face.

Another important function of motorcycle helmets is they way they are well ventilated. Much research and development has gone into this area as it is very important that a helmet doesn’t fog up, causing the rider to lose visibility, or get too hot or cold. Through correctly placed air vents and outlets that the rider is able to open and close easily, the rider is able to control airflow and maintain the desired temperature and air pressure throughout the helmet.
