If you have a whole lot of money, then you can afford to buy whatever you want. Some people will go wild and buy really unexpected things – such as an island as a present for their daughter’s birthday, or a space ship to take them on holidays into the stratosphere and beyond. However, there are a few things that are seen as particularly expected or which for whatever reason are always bought by those with a lot of money burning a very large hole in their pocket.

So, what are those purchases? Those big money hungry items that seem unachievable and frankly ridiculous to all of us normal people on normal wages and struggling to save for a modestly sized mortgage. Well there could be a Used Mercedes Benz, or perhaps a holiday?

One of the big and unavoidable purchases is a house. Even if you have somewhere absolutely lovely already the availability of hefty chunks of cash means that at some point it is likely that you will be pressured into buying yourself a mansion, or a pied a terra in London, or some other form of property based asset. It is just unavoidable. The seriously rich will buy lots and lots of houses, and will have a place to stay in most of the big cities of the world. At least, that is what the celebrity magazines would like to have us believe.

Another popular way of spending all that money, if having it in your bank account is really starting to get to you, is to buy a holiday. Or ten. I am not, of course, talking about those cheap package holidays to the Costa Del Sol, but about the sort of all inclusive first class holiday to a 5 start resort located on a tiny island in the Maldives, or a no expense spared trip to a distant African safari, where you can watch the animals from the comfort of your own luxury apartment complete with personal chef. The sort of holiday you hear about, but which the normal luddites like you and I never get to go on.

The third area that people tend to shell out on is cars. Despite the fact that there are some absolutely acceptable cars for just a few thousands pounds on the market, luxury s[ports cars and supercars seem to be becoming ever more popular. For most people the options include runaway successes like the Audi R8, or even one of the more basic Ferrari models. However, if you are really rich then you will no doubt shell out on something a whole lot more expensive than that. If you really wanted, you could spend more money on a car than you could on a house, and would be one of the rare owners of a Bugatti Veyron, or another super expensive vehicle. These are the sorts of cars that normal people will never ever be able to afford – for example a 2010 used Mercedes-Benz McClaren would still cost up in the region of £300k – and that isn’t even brand spanking new!
